The plantations around New Orleans started with indigo as a crop until they discovered the processing of the plant’s leaves was killing the workers.  Also, the crops were devastated by worms, and they switched to sugar cane.


Indigofera Tinctoria is True Indigo, the original source for indigo dye.  I took this picture at the New Orleans Botanical Garden.

I love the color indigo blue and I love the word indigo, hence the name Indigo Polo.
